by Wendy Owens
Gabe and Rachel get to know each other and share things from their past.
Uri returns and wants to take her to Iron Gate. Gabe doesn't let her go he knows she's safer there with him and he doesn't want to lose her anyway.
They get closer and closer though they don't get very physical at first, admitting their feelings was a big enough accomplishment.
6 months later they have been building a life and a relationship and Gabe has big plans for the day but his augerie senses give warning and they high tail it back to the house to find Uri, he's wounded and Rachel has to go back to Iron Gate and Gabe chooses to follow but not before laying a bombshell! (There's a huge spoiler I won't share right there.) After transporting Rachel is unconscious so they settle her in to rest for awhile.
Dina comes in just then and Gabe is overwhelmingly happy to see her. She gets introduced to an unconscious Rachel and Uri announces that she and Gabe are a couple. The subject of Sophie comes up and Gabe actually thinks she's married but it turns out she ditched that!

Book 3 in The Guardians Series
Five years have passed since Gabe abandoned Rampart, deserting his destiny and closest friends. The struggles Gabe has endured to stay alive have changed him, hardening him into a man unwilling to trust anyone or anything, dealing with difficulties connecting with the outside world.
Gabe has finally found a certain paradise--a peace in solitude--until a familiar stranger shows up on his doorstep, pleading for Gabe's help.
Now he has to decide if he is truly content in his new life, or if he is willing to risk his solitary happiness for a little piece of the world he left behind.
Should he choose to accept the most important duty of his life, one failure could mark the beginning of the end for all mankind.

Uri & Rachel have been with Gabe in his copper surrounded hideaway for three days. He and Uri have been reminiscing about battles past and training stories. He was awestruck by Rachel at the end of Cursed so I was a bit shocked to see him behave badly here. Anyways, I'm jumping ahead of myself.
Gabe really seems happy to have company after five years of being away from his friends. Uri needs to talk to Gabe and he asks him to let Rachel stay there while he searches for a safe place to keep her. She is the intended mother of the Prophet. The Prophet that Gabe is supposed to be the Protector of. He has said he wants nothing to do with that destiny so he's not happy about the situation but eventually says yes. After Uri leaves he acts like an ass with Rachel. Being rude and snide with her over nothing huge if you ask me. I think he's just use to being alone.
They get into it and she shoots him down with facts he is sure aren't true and tells her to go to his house and stay hidden.

He goes to see if some friends he made while traveling are okay but finds that Rachel was right. People have died just for helping him and it's not easy to swallow. Gabe gets into a fight with two Wintoks and gets gravely wounded. He crawls back through the valley and Rachel stumbles across him and takes care of him, nursing him back to life. That part was epic as far as I am concerned.
When he awakens he is grateful for her saving him and looking at her in a new light. After being unconscious for three days he is a new man. Rachel gets him up and moving and apologizes for the shoddy stitch job.
He is looking at Rachel in a lustful way, which sort of caught me off guard. He is a grown man after all.

Dina changes the subject and tells Uri that Michael wants to see him and he takes Gabe with him. Uri recounts the stories of how Baal has been attacking outright and Iron Gate has become a refuge on their way to the meeting.
And Oh. My. Gawd! When Sophie sees Gabe there, my mind just starts reeling her reaction is priceless. I tried to figure out why she was acting that way. I have a clue but man does that complicate things.
After this point my reading picked up pace and I couldn't stop! Oh. My. Sophie! I just knew it! I absolutely love her! Poor Gabe and oh the confusion! Rachel is equally kick arse but human by default so yeah this should be good!
Gabe seems resolved, Sophie is past and Rachel is future, it's so unpredictable and I love every second of it!

There is so, so much that happens after that but I don't want to give away too much!
There's a family reunion a confrontation, steamy passion and big plans.
The human world is in peril with Baal's relentless searching they devastate the humans as they do so.
Beasts of all sorts, beautiful Alicorns and hideous Wintoks come to life in this book.
Some insight into Michael and a trip to see an Oracle!

Oh man! I was so not ready for what went down in this book! Seriously!
Sophie was a bit cray cray! I mean I get it but for real she should have gone to Gabe long ago! I mean the dude was stuck on her for years after he left even up until he reluctantly fell for Rachel. And no I am not being hard on Sophie but she could have easily fixed it , but instead she waits, until that day! Really! Whew! Okay now that that is out of the way. I really truly am still loving this series though this book does venture out of it's chaste YA box. But even the tawdriest of details seemed chaste to me. It ventures a bit into NA, but not as um... descriptive as NA can be. Moving onto to Book 4 with a smile on my face, though it's title The Lost Years makes me think it could be more reflective then present journey for the Guardians Crown. Which is just fine by me! The more I get of the Guardians world the better!
