Death Lies Between Us
by
Jody A. Kessler
Saving the life of someone you love should not be the worst thing you have ever done, unless you are an Angel of Death.
Disgruntled with his position in the afterlife and conflicted by his feelings toward his new client, Nathaniel Evans forgoes the rules and saves nineteen year old Juliana Crowson from being hopelessly stuck in Forge Creek.
This alters Juliana's destiny and she finds herself in a series of near death accidents. In the mountains of Colorado, Nathaniel comforts Juliana as she struggles to understand her paranormal abilities while coping with her brother's drug addiction.
When an ill-tempered Native American Shaman teaches her the difference between ghosts and place memories, she decides she wants nothing to do with the supernatural world.
Too bad she doesn't know that Nathaniel is part of it. Will fate bring these two together, or has Nathaniel made the biggest mistake of his afterlife
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. ;)
Nathaniel where do I begin to describe him?? Sweet Death.... He is a guide of sorts ushering his charge to the other side. He has a real love hate relationship with his "job".
He has a new "charge" and Juliana is just different in so many ways from the usual people he helps crossover.
Juliana's brother Jared has a band called Mostly Mayhem and wants to make the big time. Jules (Juliana) is certain he can do it.
Jules' time will be up in the near future or Nathan (Nathaniel) wouldn't be there. He knows she is due to crossover sometime soon but doesn't know how or exactly when. What Nathan wasn't ready for was the feelings stirring inside since he looked into Jules' eyes.
He finds it literally impossible to keep himself from interfering with fate each time. But when you interfere in destiny there are consequences. Not just for death hot on Jules' heels but also for Nathan.
A trip with the band to the local legendary haunted castle has Jules tapping into abilities she's been ignoring and getting into more trouble. This damsel in distress has a personal savior.
Will she outrun fate and death or will Nathan do his job and usher her soul to the other side......
The page turning never stopped and my sleepiness and life got in the way of my reading! LOL!
I am definitely recommending this book.
It is a really great read!

Jules and Jared are great characters. There is nothing lacking in this book. There are lots of characters with depth. Native American rituals and traditions are always a favorite thing for me. But it's subtle. Then there is Jared, Caleb and the band. Little brother and rock stars on the rise. Lance De Lao is all rich record producer who moved into a castle ,swag but sweet too. Chris Abeyta is the young kind of crazy medicine man with moods that swing. Ashley is queen of cruel big mouthed jealous freak and Jared's ex. And there is Mason **chills** sick, sadistic, trashy and fully equipped with a sniveling minion Fredrick slash meth cooker and seller. Grandma is the all knowing yet cryptic matriarch native American woman who owns an herb shop. Then there's Jules and Nathan............
Jules is unaware that the man of her dreams Nathan is Death at her doorstep. He ushers the dead to the other side and she's his next case. From the moment he locks eyes with her it is the moment the rules went out the window. He can't help but intervene when she is in trouble. Meanwhile Jules' abilities truly begin to unfurl. Intertwined with the haunted mess at Castle Hill she's in over her head. Being pursued by slimy Mason, adored by Lance and enthralled by Nathan. Jules must discover her true abilities and what it means. She's been coping with her dad's death but is faced with redredging that hurt of loss when her brother starts shooting up and endangering his life. It all goes to crap with a quickness but Nathan saves the day realizing that Jules wasn't his charge but Jared. After his job was complete Nathan was switched to a different "job". He is now a Guardian Angel of sorts helping people who are in need of direction. He disappears from Jules life as she copes with her drug addict brother and her newfound abilities and all of her brushes with death. Jules is having crazy vivid sleep depriving dreams. And then she's dreaming of Nathan....
She still doesn't know who he really is. But he told her how to call him to her. After finally questioning Chris Abeyta about his strange near violent reaction to Nathan she now knows but doesn't believe his true identity. Needing to get away from her angry injured but alive brother she goes to camp at her grandma's. She is drifting asleep and says "his" name. When she opens her eyes he's there. She feels like she should fear him but she can't for long. That electrical feeling between them is soo real. God knows how they are gonna make is work but one thing is certain. They are going to find a way.
I fell in love with Jules and Nathan and their story is not over... at least I hope it's not!! (hide spoiler)]Get your copy today!
