Genre: New Adult, Contemporary Romance
I loved everything about Victoria Blane and Levi Manor and the dynamic between them and the history, that alone had me swooning and dreading the inevitable tragedy.
It was so very sad when she lost him the desperation and pain was so real. I was taken in by the detail of the depression that I have seen first hand before.
Kate was so instrumental and Claire they were so great with her. It takes time but the baby steps help so much. She finally after some time begins to get back on her feet. Her progress is slow going and it's always a battle not to slip back into the depression that can overtake when you least expect it.
Victoria has already taken some huge steps into getting her shattered life back when she meets Brighton at school in her group. He looks at her and makes her feel things she isn't sure about and she embarks on a journey to see if love is something she could ever do again. Lost love when it's sudden and tragic leaves a stain on the soul as far as I am concerned. This book is a raw and emotionally open look at life after the love of a lifetime and the battle to move on and live.
She deserves the new lease on life if she will allow herself to be happy, it's a really beautiful thing.
I really do love this book. I recommend it highly and I love what Brina is doing with #ipromise.
4 of 5 Hearts
My parents wanted to name me something that couldn't be shortened so "Brina" came out of a baby book. It's pronounced like the water filter but with an "n" instead of a "t." I know I wish it was more exciting too, but sadly, it's really not. Though it's different and I like it.
I've been writing professionally for over a year. I also teach in an elementary school and I coach high school cheerleading.
After finally landing a teach job I was only employed for two years before the furloughs started. If you're from PA you know that teachers are facing the biggest budget cuts we've ever seen, so when I lost my job I decided to start writing the Cryptid Tales novels. I had nothing to lose and everything to gain.

The smell reached her nose before she even opened her eyes, and Victoria knew where she was. Back in the hospital, the hellhole. It had the distinct smell of cleaning supplies and death. Victoria couldn’t understand why she was back here when she had finally made the decision to take care of the pain herself. Why had Kate arrived when she did? Had she been watching her that closely? Did she expect something like this to happen? Slowly Victoria tried to move her limbs and felt the scratchy sheets beneath her skin. She looked over at the multiple stitches crisscrossing back and forth over her pale skin. This was her life. This what Victoria had done to herself. Her arm would never be the same again. But would anything else? She wasn't sure.
Stealing Promises, one girl's powerful account of love, loss, and ultimately hope.
