Book 3
I was stunned and enamored all at once by the end of Double Fault and eager to start Deuce!
Deuce is a really complex addition to the trilogy and just as great if not better than the other books! Cassie goes MIA and scares everyone including me! Oh and then whole world flips upside down after Jeff freaks at a game!
This book was so good, such a action packed ending to a great trilogy. Janine Caldwell brought me into Cassie an Trent's world and made my imagination go wild. The descriptiveness of her writing was really good and left little to my imagination. I could picture every detail with clarity. You will not be disappointed getting into these books. They are YA at it's most engaging, the whole fantasy aspect to it is kind of minimal as far as I am concerned. Time travel is a new thing for me to read, I really think I have only read a few series that have it in there and I really do like it! And can you say plot twist!? I was so surprised more than once reading this book along with a myriad of other emotions!
I understood her parents view on things but if I were her and Trent I wouldn't have sweated the situation with 18 around the corner and the boyfriend having the cash for my education not to mention possible scholarships. But that's just me... I was on edge again reading this book so much happened my head is left spinning with that familiar yet welcome book hangover. I laughed and oh man did I cry... This was so very good seriously!!
I was super sad for it all to come to an end. I cannot wait to get these books for my teenagers, I recommend this series highly and I could not give this book less than 5 stars!

Book 1
Release Date: 03/11/12
Trent Astor is many things—orphan, runaway, musician. But what’s most extraordinary about Trent is that he’s a time traveler. His supernatural gift sends him on missions to the past to save unsuspecting victims from harm. However, when he fails to save the life of a young girl, his life changes in ways he could never have dreamed.
At eleven-years-old, Cassie Moore suffered through a horrific shooting. Tragically scarred from the ordeal, the once promising tennis prodigy was forced to throw away all hope of a future in tennis. Now, as she begins her senior year of high school, the past continues to haunt her. She struggles to find herself, her self-esteem at an all time low. If only she could resolve the past, she might be able to move on with her life. She never imagined that could be possible until she meets the gorgeous new student in her PE class.

First off I am not a huge tennis fan but I was intrigued by these books since I first caught wind of them.
Rematch was really great and tennis is like a sideline story to Trent's unusual abilities and family life. I loved the premise and plot it was new and fresh. I have read time travel books and this series is unique in alot of ways.
I loved Cassie, the story is a s much hers as it is Trent's. He and his sister Lorelai are settling into their new life yet again, the life of a time traveler tends to be risky due to power hungry people.
All of the characters were well rounded and I loved the musical element to the story as well. The rocker vibe from Trent or should I say Jeremy was awesome! Incorporating Lorelai's story in there was a very great idea on the authors part.
I like that we get a good look at Cassie's life before their paths cross for the second time. She is starting her senior year along with her best friend Kelli and boyfriend Jeff. Things are not so great with her recently rejected boyfriend. Cassie has issues due to her past and what she went through and Trent is shocked to be face to face with the girl he thought he let down in one of his heroic time travels. He tries to play it cool but is shocked. Cassie is attracted to Trent or Jeremy which is his alias in this new life. But she is also trying to place where she has seen him before.
By end of this book the plot had twisted and thickened making it an intriguing and all around good book! Can you say oh my cliffhanger! Seriously happy I don't have to wait for Double Fault!
I really loved the way this all played out it was sweet and rough all at the same time! I would read this book again and plan on recommending it top my own teenagers and anyone who loves YA as much as I do. A really good read!

BOOK 2
Double Fault (Vortex #2)
Release Date: 03/11/12
DOUBLE FAULT is the 2nd book in The Vortex Series where Cassie and Trent’s problems have only just begun. As they fight through the repercussions of creating a parallel world, other dangers are lurking. After years of running, Trent and his orphaned sister, Lorelai, sense the dangerous and power-hungry Dr. Fox is close to discovering their whereabouts.
While Cassie fears for Trent’s life, her tennis career hangs in the balance. Caught between her old and new life, she watches her world slowly crumble until it’s a tragic portrayal of all that she used to know. But worse yet, if her secret is revealed, she might lose what’s most dear to her heart.
The series just gets better! OMG! Life is better in some ways and not in others in the parallel world that Trent created. He righted a wrong in his eyes and nearly lost the only happiness he has known since he lost his parents. At the end of the last book a miracle occurred but Cassie was furious that he had changed everything and not for the reasons you would think. Now a tennis ace with a bright future Cassie has to balance her career and trying to keep the time traveling love of her life's true identity a secret.
Things unravel in a big way and Dr. Fox the power hungry madman seems to be close on their trail then it comes to a head. Big decisions have to be made and it seems the universe wants to right itself, complicating things further for Cassie, Trent, Lorelai and their friends. I was so torn over the whole Jeff situation! He was so different in this alternate time! OMG Kelli and what Jeff and Cassie shared. I really didn't think that Trent was going to be able to handle it. His self loathing reaches new heights after he is smacked with that revelation of what he and Cassie would never share in their firsts... That part was super sad for me.
I really like where the story went it took turns I didn't see coming and I love unpredictability in my reads. I was excited and frustrated with this book and downright scared for them! It was so good, more action, more happening and we go deeper into the rabbit hole. I was actually on pins and needles for quite awhile and reading at neck break speeds because I just HAD to know what happened next!! And the ending WOW!!!
Totally recommend it and so glad that I have Deuce to read now!
These books are a great example of why I love YA!!! So good!

Janine Caldwell was born in Concord, CA and raised in the small San Francisco Bay Area town of Clayton. Four days after high school graduation, Janine attended California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and graduated with a degree in English.
Janine now lives in Anthem, AZ with her husband and two sons. As a lifelong literature fanatic, she knew it was only a matter of time before she would become obsessed with writing her own work. With relatives like the Brothers Grimm and Anita Loos (Gentlemen Prefer Blondes), she figured fantasy writing had to be in her DNA.
Books published by Janine include Visited, a YA coming-of-age fantasy, Rematch andDouble Fault–the first two books of The Vortex Series. The final book in this YA fantasy romance, Deuce, will be released soon.
