Title: Searching For Beautiful
Author: Nyrae Dawn
Publisher: Entangled Teen
Publish Date: March 4th 2014
Brynn had a group of best friends, a boyfriend who
loved her, a growing talent for pottery. She had a life. And then…she had none.
After it happened…
Everything was lost. The boy she now knew never
loved her. The friends who felt she betrayed their trust. The new life just
beginning to grow inside her.
Brynn believes her future is as empty as her body
until Christian, the boy next door, starts coming around. Playing his guitar
and pushing her to create art once more. She meets some new friends at the
local community center, plus even gets her dad to look her in the eye
again…sort of. But letting someone in isn’t as easy as it seems.
Now…
Can Brynn open up her heart to truly find her
life’s own beauty, when living for the after means letting go
of the before?
Yeah, okay I admit it once more I so forgot to re-read the synopsis and was über shocked again!! Although after reading the synopsis again it truly gives nothing away.
This is a really good YA read and I think all teenage girls should give it a read. I know I will be purchasing a copy for my sixteen year old daughter!
Brynn is sixteen and she is in love and has big news to tell her boyfriend. She's on cloud nine confident that he will be just as happy as she is that they created something together but when she tells him the news she is slapped with a harsh reality. Things aren't always what they seem and the truth hurts... bad.
After ditching school for emotional reasons Brynn has to go to a community center and start her healing process and she doesn't really protest, she really does want to be okay but finding yourself for a second time can be even harder than the first time around. Between school the community center and the new neighbors that Brynn has a past with she tries hard to climb from the ashes of her young life.
Christian is the gummy bear eating boy next door he's sweet funny and talented and best of all he just wants to make Brynn smile. He soon finds it's hard for her to let herself be happy when so much is so wrong. With his help Brynn tries to drag herself out of darkness and back into the light. Being a friend to a new acquaintance and trying to be a friend to Christian too. Her journey felt real and messy just like life truly is and I really liked that.
I really do love this book. I love the characters and the storyline and even how it all ends up though very little was predictable. I would recommend it to anyone who likes YA Contemporary and books that deal with deep teenage social issues. It really hits a nerve when you have been through something similar in your life. I never got intimate with him but did get duped by a man when I was a teenager and I was thanking my lucky stars it didn't go further after it was all said and done. This phenomenal book deals with grief and loss plus adoption and even touches on abusive teenagers a little. Very moving and if I were in that situation it would be inspiring too. Brynn's circumstances were heartbreaking but it was really really a great read and reminds me that no matter what life goes on we just have to choose how to live it.

Writing has always been Nyrae Dawn's passion. There have been times in her life where she wasn't able to chase that dream the way she desired, but she always found her way back to telling stories.
One of her loves has always been writing about teens. There's something so fresh and fun about the age she loves exploring. Her husband says it's because she doesn't want to grow up. She doesn't think that's such a bad thing and luckily for her, he doesn't either.
Nyrae gravitates toward character-driven stories. She loves going on emotional journeys with characters whether it be reading or writing. And yes, she's a total romantic at heart and proud.
Nyrae resides in sunny Southern California with her husband (who still makes her swoon) and her two awesome kids.
When she's not with her family, you can be pretty sure you'll find her with a book in her hand or her laptop and an open document in front of her. She writes for Entangled Publishing, Grand Central Publishing and is self-published.
Nyrae is represented by Jane Dystel of Dystel and Goderich Literary Management.
Nyrae Dawn also writes Adult Romance under the name Kelley Vitollo.
