Title: Defector
Author: Susanne Winnacker
Publisher: RazorBill
Publish Date: June 26, 2014
Tessa has finally made peace with her life as a Variant. She and
long-time love Alec are officially a couple, and for the first time, she has
everything she wants.
But the air is tense at FEA headquarters. An agent has disappeared, and rogue variant organization Abel’s Army is likely the culprit.
When Tessa is summoned for her second mission, she is unexpectedly launched into a massive conspiracy. Her best friend Holly is kidnapped and Tessa knows it was meant to be her. But who is after her? And more importantly, why?
When the FEA’s efforts to rescue Holly don’t yield any results, Tessa takes matters into her own hands. Desperate to save her friend and uncover the mystery behind Abel’s Army, Tessa launches her own investigation—but nothing could prepare her for what she finds. Everyone in her life is harboring secrets: Alec, her estranged mother, even the father she never knew.
The truth will take her out on the road and out of her comfort zone, with danger lurking everywhere. Summoning all of her courage and strength, Tessa must decide who can be trusted and what is worth fighting for—even if it means going against the life she thought she wanted. Her final decision will leave readers breathless.
Defector picks up where Impostor left off not a beat skipped in this next installment in the Variants Series. Tessa is back home and things are steadily changing. The world she lives in is full of uncertainty but Tessa is convinced she can handle it all now that Alec is by her side. Rebels of their kind are trying to make a stand and the Variants are in danger of being drug into the fray. Kidnappings hit close to home and Tessa has alot on her plate.
Holly has been kidnapped and Tessa reasonably was flipping out. I know I would have freaked if my best friend had been kidnapped. I love Tessa's determination and her fire. She really steps up in this read as a really good MC, strong and vulnerable perfectly balanced. There is plenty of Alec and Devon in this book so the swoon factor was high! I am kinda leaning towards #TeamDevon though!
Talk about your plot twists! Oh my wow! I was stunned and thrown midway into this read and it only got intense and I read as fast as my eyes could scan the pages! I was completely sucked into this read and I was pleasantly captivated.
You could have blown up the world around me and I wouldn't have noticed!Aah this was soo, soo good!! I just want to read it again! I was so freaking stunned and stunned again! WOW!! No way I could have predicted that! No way! Eeep it was so exciting! I really need my adrenaline to slow down LOL!
I am not giving away anything and there is so much to give away! I will say that you have got to give this series a try! I am so on the edge of my seat waiting for the next Variants novel! Thanks to Rockstar Book Tours for picking me for the tour and to Susanne Winnacker and Razorbill for the ARC copy!
I definitely recommend Defector! If you love YA or if you haven't tried YA this is the read for you! Give it a shot and I swear you will not be disappointed!

Join Tessa on her first mission as a Variant!
Book 1
Can Tessa pose as Madison . . . and stop a killer before it’s too late?
Tessa is a Variant, able to absorb the DNA of anyone she touches and mimic their appearance. Shunned by her family, she’s spent the last two years training with the Forces with Extraordinary Abilities, a secret branch of the FBI. When a serial killer rocks a small town in Oregon, Tessa is given a mission: she must impersonate Madison, a local teen, to find the killer before he strikes again.
Tessa hates everything about being an impostor—the stress, the danger, the deceit—but loves playing the role of a normal girl. As Madison, she finds friends, romance, and the kind of loving family she’d do anything to keep. Amid action, suspense, and a ticking clock, this super-human comes to a very human conclusion: even a girl who can look like anyone struggles the most with being herself.

That was definitely an intriguing read! I was all nail biting and jumbled nerves!!
I love our MC, Tessa and I liked but wasn't sold completely on Alec! Holly and Ana are great characters too! Even the supporting characters are really good and well developed. All believable.
The character and story development was stellar and I seriously liked the mystery behind it all.
The main characters are awesome and the plot is unique which is no small feat! I was stunned speechless quite a few times on this one. I was completely creeped out, hairs standing on end, "OMG someone is behind me aren't they?", freaked out at several spots in this read! I suppose reading a who dunnitsort of nurder mystery in the dark can do that to you. Hehe :)
I felt myself being tugged in two directions like I was being stretched two ways! #TeamAlec and #TeamDevon LOL! Yeah mmhmm! I was uber creeped out by Phil and super stunned about the whole thing with Yates. There were definitely juicy twists all the while maintaining it's YA status, that is so not easy to do but Susanne Winnacker tackled it like a champ!
Just when I thought I had it all figured out I got the wind knocked out of me and was screaming "Noooo!" at a paperback. Talk about your shocker, wow. I seriously could not put this down!It twists so good in the end just... Smack! Didn't see that coming did ya? Just so good!
The author did a spectacular job creating this hidden society of Variants and I really liked the concept alot. The plot was steadily paced and had alot of underlying things that helped you to get to know Madison and Tessa as well. Bravo on that and the whole shifting thing had my mind reeling!
I most definitely recommend this book if you love YA half as much as I do and you love a good mystery!
This is not a whodunnit by far it's more of a Teen Thriller. All I know is it won't disappoint!
