REVIEW - Unreap My Heart by Kate Evangelista

17668656
Only a villain can save the day.

During his thousand year banishment in the Nethers, Balthazar thought of nothing but taking over the Crossroads from Death.

On the day he puts his plans into action, Balthazar finds the Crossroads on lockdown. Death has been stabbed by Brianne’s Bitterness, a blade that slowly leaches him of his powers. In order to challenge Death for his seat and prevent utter chaos, Balthazar is forced into a mission to find the Redeemer, the only being capable of pulling out the blade from Death’s chest. The only person who can identify the Redeemer is a human girl in the Crossroads whose soul is still attached to her body.

Meeting Arianne Wilson pushes Balthazar’s patience to the limit. In a deal he makes with Death, he must protect Arianne during their journey through the Underverse using all the resources available to him. He soon realizes the one he needs to protect is himself. For as much harm as it inflicts on Balthazar's body, trekking through the Underverse with Arianne is proving more dangerous for his heart and soul.

Can the villain remain a villain when love gets in the way?

Ahhh I am so frustrated I so needed more Niko in my read but Balthazar was surprisingly interesting to read.

And oh yes did I love this book! I had a thing for Death in Reaping me Softly even though he was a villain but it was agonizing to read him in this book... poor D.

Anyways I really dig the sass in this book and the tit for tat between Ari and Balthazar. That was fun to read for sure. I enjoyed every step of the way on the journey to find the Redeemer before time ran out. The story was suspenseful as well so that was a plus.

I liked the vast underworld that we got to see so much of in this book. It gave me so much imaginative material for future reference in the series. I liked this book alot though admittedly not as much as Reaping Me Softly. But I think that's just my Team Niko coming out. I was glued to the pages and needed to know what happened next.

I like the intertwining of the real world and the Underworld. This is a brilliant YA Fantasy series with memorable characters and a great plot. I had to tell myself to imagine this is Arianne's story, and not so much Ari and Niko's story, because I love Ari & Niko... together and we definitely get more Ari in this read. And OMG Zakariel, great character!! Maybe one of my faves, ooh and Carrie didn't disappoint, I love Ari's crazy best friend! I laughed and nearly cried too!

It ventured to a place called love triangle which is something I really don't like but in this case I felt like it was more of a revelation to Balthazar that he could feel things he had no idea he was capable of feeling. I enjoyed watching the development of it and I dreaded what was going on. I was scared the whole time for Niko, I wanted nothing more than him saved and safe. It was on my mind the entire read! LOL Sorry I'm all Team Niko, although Balthazar was a swoon worthy bad boy!

I wasn't disappointed with the book because it was definitely intriguing and a captivating read.
The story... loved it! The plot... Twisted! The characters... yes please. Really a great cast in this book! I cannot wait to see what's next for the Reaper Series and the cliffhanger left me reeling! Kate Evangelista is rapidly becoming one of my favorite authors! But OMG I so need book three!! Aaah!

When Kate Evangelista was told she had a knack for writing stories, she did the next best thing: entered medical school. After realizing she wasn't going to be the next Doogie Howser, M.D., Kate wandered into the Literature department of her university and never looked back. Today, she is in possession of a piece of paper that says to the world she owns a Literature degree. To make matters worse, she took Master's courses in creative writing. In the end, she realized to be a writer, none of what she had mattered. What really mattered? Writing. Plain and simple, honest to God, sitting in front of her computer, writing. Today she lives in the Philippines and writes full time.
