BLOG TOUR - Essence by A.L. Waddington

Essence by A.L. Waddington
(The EVE Series #1)
Published by: Booktrope Publishing

Genres: Paranormal, Young Adult

Jocelyn Timmons does not believe she is anything special — just an ordinary high school senior, living an ordinary life full of school-work, volleyball and friends. She’s about to find out how wrong she is.

Jackson Chandler moved in to the house across the street. His dark wavy hair, green eyes and charismatic personality draws everyone to him. Everyone, but Jocelyn.
Whenever Jackson gets near Jocelyn she feels ill and dizzy. When he touches her, she blacks out and has visions of another life, in another time. As the odd hallucinations evolve and become clearer, she feels a strong pull towards the people she sees there. Frightened, she watches her once stable life begin to crumble around her and she begins to question her own sanity.

Could it be possible that these episodes are actually her own memories of a life she is living somehow, somewhere, some-when? Maybe this is time-travel or some other paranormal mysticism? Our minds often wander, but can our souls?

This was a very interesting read and I was a little confused at first. The book alternates between 2009 and 1878 and it doesn't give any explanation until further along in the read. Both past and present stories were intriguing to me and kept me reading. It held my interest for sure. I love YA and I love paranormal or supernatural and this is Paranormal YA that is engaging and fun too. There is such a scandal to the 1878 story that I was all into!

The characters were great both past and present. Each one was well developed and had great personality. I was thoroughly satisfied with all of them and love the MC Jocelyn in both times. Jackson is perfectly swoon worthy and so are most of the guys. The girls are a great mix of characters. I like the parents in this book too. All played an important roll I think.

The storyline was hard to grasp at first with jumping time like that and seemed like two tandem but different stories at first. The further I read the more curious I was as to the possible connection and I have to say it's a new twist. It was a very interesting read! Nothing was too far fetched or unbelievable it was a very imaginative concept and I was nearly as shocked as Jocelyn LOL!

I am excited about reading Enlightened next and would definitely recommend this series if you love YA as much as I do! This book has the perfect balance of a contemporary YA feel and a historical romance blended into the perfect YA Paranormal book! I am most definitely a fan of the EVE series!
