Kaylyn Anderson's fascination with abandoned places and dark creatures kindled her work as a paranormal investigator. But when dreams begin to distort reality, she questions what is real and pulls away from everyone she trusts. The opportunity to investigate the Teague Hotel--a long-abandoned landmark that has always piqued her curiosity--provides a chance to redeem herself. Unraveling the hotel's secrets won't be easy, but Kaylyn soon finds herself the target of a dark entity that has been trapped in the building for decades. If Kaylyn stands any chance of defeating the spirit, she'll have to accept that her fears are real and convince fellow investigators that she hasn't lost her mind.

I was taken in right away by Kaylan and Nicole's dynamic. Sisters who do a secretive job dealing with supernatural entities on a daily basis. They work for Aicil, the people to call when the unexplainable ends up in your life one way or another.

It begins with Kaylan botching a job but I don't think it was really her fault, the sisters supervisor being abruptly replaced by a guy only slightly older than Kaylan. She has enough attitude to last a lifetime but the new boss, Jonah, isn't having it. He comes down on Kay for her lax in the dress code and her unbridled tongue. He had been sent there to give Kaylan or "Kay" and Nicole "Cole" the boot. But he soon finds out that though she lacks discipline Kay is good at what she does. He puts the girls on probation while he sticks close and goes hands on in their new case at the Teague Hotel. A place that Kaylan has long been interested in seeing up close.
Things seem to spiral for Kaylan and Jonah notices it right away. Cole is worried about her sister but has attributed her strange behavior to a recent breakup. Kaylan has been having crazy nightmares and sleep has eluded her for awhile, good sleep at least.

Now I love the twists in this story and I adore the dynamic that develops between Kay and Jonah. He gets protective of her pretty quickly once he figures out that something is supernaturally not right. But once they figure that out, things get crazy pretty fast and what they find is mind blowing. I seriously didn't see that coming!

Skye Callahan did a great job on Fractured Legacy! May I add I read this while my house was dark and the rest of my family was in bed. Not the best idea LOL!
I will probably read it again and my sixteen year old daughter is bugging me to buy the book for her.

This was a refreshing, not the norm, paranormal read. For spoilers, (because, oh yes I have them!), see my Goodreads Review.

I cannot wait to read Beyond The Divide!

4 of 5 hearts!

Kaylyn slid into the car. Flipping down the visor, she opened the mirror to check out her discolored cheek. “It won’t happen again. Let’s just get this back to the office so it can be sent to the lab-coat squad and they can figure out what it is.”
The ride back to the office was full of silent-but-pestering sideways glances and the nervous tapping of Cole’s fingers against the steering wheel. When they arrived, Kaylyn was relieved to get out of the car, even knowing full-well what awaited her inside.
Cole, however, didn’t move after putting the car in park. “Have you talked to Ian?”
“What?” Kaylyn ducked her head down to look back into the car.
“Maybe you should talk to him. Resolve whatever it is that’s got you all—” Cole waved her hand at Kaylyn as if it explained everything she was trying to say.
“This,” Kaylyn moved her hands in imitation, “has nothing to do with Ian, or his moving out and moving on.”
“Then what, Kay? Are you sick? Did something else happen?” Cole’s eyes narrowed. “You haven’t been talking to Nick again….”
Kaylyn rolled her eyes, wondering if this going to turn into a rewind through every guy she’d ever dated. “He’s in Canada.”
“Wrong answer.”
“No. I haven’t been talking to him or any other guy. Why do you always think my problems come down to men?” Kaylyn slammed the door.
“Because they usually do.” Cole huffed, meeting Kaylyn at the trunk of the car. “I’ve never seen you like this. I’ve seen you distant, cut off, and depressed, but even depressed you were more engaged than now. You’re pushing everyone and everything away.”
“I’m just tired. Maybe I need a change of scenery. A vacation.”
“Damn, you are sick. We spent the last three years of college doing full time coursework and working here and you reveled in the chaos. But three months of working full-time and work-a-holic Kaylyn suddenly needs a vacation?”
“I’m tired of lying to everyone.”
“So, it is about Ian.”
