BLOG TOUR - Goodbye To You by A.J. Matthews

Goodbye To You

Europe? Nope. Mexico? Nope. Key West?

Not me. This summer, I'm playing nursemaid to my sister. Yeah, I know. Relatively good looking twenty-two-year-olds don't spend the summer bedside in the cancer ward, but that's the plan - until my sister threatens me with bodily harm unless I get on the plane.

That's when I met him. He likes me. Really likes me. But more than that, he loves my boobs -- like can't get enough. I have no idea how to tell him that they'll be gone soon. Courtesy of a preventative double mastectomy. Yep. That's what testing positive for the breast cancer gene mutation will do to a girl.

But don't feel sorry for me. I'm enjoying him, holding on until the last possible minute, while I muster up the strength to tell him, and watch him walk away.

I loved this book!

Where do I begin?

Let's start with the MC. Thea is a fabulous MC. She is dealing with alot of life altering stuff when her last hooray turns into so much more!

I love all of the characters though Shay and Thea completely stole the show for me. I liked the moody and indecisiveness of Thea, it made her very human and real. I also liked that it was a gritty tale to tell and that nothing was sugar coated. Shay was a perfect fit for the story and he was well written.

I LOVE the plot! I have lost so many people to cancer that I truly appreciate an author who is willing to bring light to such a tough subject matter. The whole preventative double mastectomy is a situation that most would fall apart facing and I think that Thea was brave that way but terrified at the same time. She was brave yet vulnerable. Her friends and family were excellently written as well. Shay's family was great too. I really loved experiencing all of the dates in Key West, you could just feel the connection between Thea and Shay, it was natural and not forced or overly reiterated that they were falling hard.

The entire story was great and if I didn't have to do other things I would have completely zoned out to read this book until the very last page.

I really, truly loved how it all unfolded and could totally see this as a movie. I love how it begins in Key West all whirlwind and then it gets amazing when they've gone back to real life and their paths cross again! Love, love that and everything in between. I don't want to give anything away but I do want to convey that if you like New Adult or if you haven't read it before this would be a great book to begin with!

I recommend this book a thousand times over and I am so going to read it again when I get the time!

I wrote my first book at six. A retelling of The Three Little Pigs, illustrated by my grandmother, the book was never picked up and was self-published instead, glued to cardboard with a cover fashioned from wallpaper scraps.

Today, I write stories featuring nice guys (or nice guys in-the-making) in between my other jobs writing research reports for a commercial real estate company, refereeing two young daughters, navigating the teen waters with a too-cute-for-his-own-good son, spoiling a neurotic cat, and making my darling, patient husband shake his head. I'm also an autism mom, chocolate enthusiast, sports-watcher, nacho-eater, and beer-drinker.

A Maryland native, I live in North Carolina now, but dreams of the beach fuel my fantasties, and my characters can often be found strolling in the sand or sailing along a coast.
